The challenge
The main objective of the challenge is to build a foiling Moth Dinghy in the most sustainable way possible without compromising high performance. The boat will be tested when competing with other universities in the SuMoth ChallEnge 2027 in Lake Garda, Italy.

a Moth is a high-performance, single-handed foiling dinghy. It’s hydrofoils lift the boat above the water, allowing it to reach very high speeds while requiring precise control and sailing technique.
sustainability
we want to develop a high-performance sailing boat while reducing its environmental impact. We aim to explore more sustainable materials and production methods, while designing the boat for durability, repairability, and a longer lifecycle.
Purpose
Chalmers formula sailing team tides over the gap between engineering theory and real-world impact. We are a student driven team dedicated to designing, building and racing high-performance dinghies.
We turn bold ideas into results on the water by taking ownership of ideas from concept to competition, collaborate with driven peers and sponsors who share out passion for sailing and innovation as well as pushing the boundaries in order to expand and develop the team at all times.

Right now we are building a new boat for the 2027 SuMoth Challange. With the experience gained from saga we strive to improve our boat in terms of performance
Our teams
Our team brings together students from different disciplines, years of study, backgrounds and nationalities at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. Each season, members contribute their skills and ideas across every part of the project, from design, manufacturing, testing and racing the boat to partnerships, events, media and outreach. Together, the teams have helped the project grow year by year, pushing the team’s ambitions further and strengthening the community behind it.
Team 2025/26
Won 3rd place in “best upgraded boat” catEgory.
The team 2025-2026 consist of 25 students from Chalmers University of TecHnology.
